Ok you may find this amusing but one thing that shocked me the other day is i walk passed a porn shop, which had a shop window, which contained things that would be considered an outrage in Australia, if displayed. Ill post one pic just so you can get an idea.

Window shop front for porn shop, couldnt not see this in Australia

Ok soo i couldnt just leave you with that picture alone because its a beautiful place here so here is a shot of a hill not to far from where i live.

Variations of the ‘porn shop window’ can be seen in Sydney and Melbourne such as at ‘Lucrezia & De Sade’ in Brunswick St. Fitzroy Melbourne. Sometimes when we travel overseas we see more than we do when we are at home.

Do they have dvds in the front showing all parts?

Id imagine images like that would be disturbing for children. I must admit I have travelled the world a fair bit any never seen one before.

But it sounds like you know your porn shops. Netherless still a surpise to me.

  3. It’s interesting though that, in your home country, you can often go about your normal business and never see some things (like porn shops, but lots of other examples) because of the way our communities are organized. In day-to-day life, we travel familiar pathways and often don’t realize what’s lying just off those pathways.

Overseas, since we don’t know the symbolic geography, we can wind up seeing a lot more of life. When I was in Brazil, for example, my highly educated friends were shocked to hear some of the places that I had seen because I was so hungry to see everything — I had to tell them about neighborhoods where they would never go, even though they were natives.

I think it’s a good reminder to sometimes treat home a bit like a foreign country, to try to take in more of home, just like we take in so much when we’re in a new environment.

Wow – this is weird, strange and disturbing.

So they have DVD’s in the front windows of porn shops? In my opinion, that is unethical.

How would you explain this to innocent children passing by?

    Great post Luke.
