Wow! just how you imagine it! I guess it’s like expecting to see kangaroos in the suburbs in Australia – but they really do have cacti everywhere? or is this out in the boonies? tell us more! does it make you feel very foreign or does it reinforce your expectations?
there really are cacti everywhere. in people’s gardens, on the side of the road, in the mountains..everywhere. i expected it to be like this! but probably not AS many cacti. its also stinking hot.
This has intrigued me — are they non-native and have they become invasive, like a weed if you see it everywhere?? Usually cacti have a purpose in the ecological cycle.
So.. I did a quick google search and mu hunch was confirmed. Interestingly, the US is preventing the economic and ecological degradation of non-native cacti with the release of sterile moths.

Hi Alex–

Maybe ask the locals how they perceive the cacti??? It would be a really interesting project to pursue and blog about.
